The IEBM LibraryOccupational psychology

Occupational psychology is a British term used to describe the study of the behaviour of people at work. Different terms are used in other countries. A psychological perspective on work behaviour offers distinctive insights and perspectives and also offers an expanding range of career opportunities.

The domain of occupational psychology encompasses the following: selection and assessment, careers and career counselling, training and development, design of work and working environment, motivation and performance, individual-organizational linkages, well-being and the quality of working life, and change and transition. Occupational psychology has also been able to contribute to the dual goals of worker well-being and organizational effectiveness. Challenges currently faced by occupational psychologists include the tension between science and application, the pressure to develop and pursue fads and fashions and the need for a more international perspective.
